Ranomi POTATO

Quick Overview

Ranomi potatoes are an early ware variety developed by Agrico Research, named after the renowned Dutch swimmer Ranomi Kromowidjojo. They are prized for their attractive deep yellow, smooth skin and excellent presentation, making them a popular choice in various European markets. This variety is designed to offer good consumption qualities and a reliable yield for growers.

  • Early maturing potato variety suitable for early harvest.
  • Marketed for its visual appeal and culinary versatility.
  • Bred by Agrico, a leader in potato variety development.

Origin & History

The Ranomi potato variety originated from a cross between parent lines AR 93-3379 and AR 95-0319, initiated by Agrico Research in 2002. After 11 years of selective breeding, the seedling AR 03-0221 was chosen and developed into the Ranomi variety, with at least 75% of its ancestry tracing back to German potato lines. It also inherits traits from the Dutch variety Arielle, contributing to its yield potential and early maturity.

  • Breeding began in 2002 with a focus on creating an early consumer potato.
  • Predominantly German lineage, blended with Dutch influences.
  • Finalized and named after a decade-plus of research and selection.
